DURHAM – Head coach Jamie Ashworth and the Duke women’s tennis team kicked off practice for the 2022-23 campaign on Friday morning at the Ambler Tennis Stadium. Ashworth, who enters his 27th season with the Blue Devils, is coming off leading Duke to its 18th ACC Championship and 11th trip to the NCAA Tournament semifinals.
The Blue Devils will feature a week of practice before splitting up to compete at the Furman Fall Classic and the Milwaukee Tennis Classic from Sept. 16-18 to open the 2022 fall season.
“It was great to be out here and great to get this season going,” said Ashworth. “We have a lot of hunger and a lot of anticipation to what this season will bring. It’s interesting with the influx of four new people, but three that have played college tennis before. So, we’re excited to bring the team together and see what kind of family they can become. And that’s part of the challenge. We’re definitely looking forward to the season getting going next week with some matches, but it’s good to get out here and practice and work.”
The Blue Devils welcome back five letterwinners, including two Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America selections – Chloe Beck and Georgia Drummy – while welcoming in three graduate transfers — Iuliia Bryzgalova, Cameron Morra and Brianna Shvets. Ashworth also added freshman Katie Codd to the mix.
