DURHAM – Duke women’s tennis head coach Jamie Ashworth added the former No. 1 ranked recruit nationally, Eleana Yu, to the 2024-25 roster, following a rookie campaign at Stanford.
“We are looking forward to having Eleana join our team and be a Blue Devil,” said Ashworth. “She has a tremendous history of success and was a dominant fixture throughout her junior career. She brings a desire and hunger that will be felt throughout our program and a passion for tennis that we are excited about. It’s been great getting to know Eleana and her family, we cannot wait to begin working with her and welcoming her into the Duke community.”
Originally from Mason, Ohio, Yu attended Laurel Springs School where she compiled a 4.55 grade-point average.
Yu owns an impressive resume that includes being a four-time United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Champion, winner of the 2022 Girls 18s Billie Jean King National Championship and was a semifinalist in 2023 and won national titles at U-14 (twice, hard court and Easter Bowl) and U-12 levels. At age 17, Yu competed in the 2022 U.S. Open main draw and was the No. 1 ranked recruit every single year beginning in sixth grade, according to Tennis Recruiting.
She owns a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) career-high singles ranking of 646 and a doubles ledger of 935. Yu was a U.S. Open Junior doubles quarterfinalist in 2022 and competed in singles in 2021 and 2022.
“I am super excited to be a part of the Duke team,” said Yu. “When I made my visit to campus, I thought there was a really good community and family atmosphere around the squad. I am very excited to have a new start in Durham, get on the court and begin working.”
As a freshman at Stanford in 2023-24, Yu collected a 13-2 overall singles mark, including a 6-0 record in dual match action. She played at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 slots this past spring for the Cardinal. In the preseason ITA rankings, Yu was tabbed No. 4 in the newcomer singles list. Yu also notched a 6-2 record in doubles action as a rookie.
