Ojai, Calif. – The Wildcats fell 4-1 to the Utes in the first match of the Pac-12 Championship tournament. Arizona was seeded at No. 8 and Utah at No. 9.
The Cats defeated Utah 4-3 in Salt Lake City during the regular season after freshman Midori Castillo clinched with her singles win against Lindsay Hung.
Arizona dropped the doubles point after Kirsten Prelle and Salma Ziouti fell 6-4 to Linda Huang and Madison Tattini. Freshman pair Castillo and Belen Nevenhoven won their doubles match 6-1 against Hung and Katya Hersh.
Kayla Wilkins was the only Wildcat who won her singles match. She defeated Emily Dush in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Wilkins won her match against Dush in the regular season also in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
The women’s team finished 16-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play. The NCAA team selection on May 2 will determine the Wildcat’s fate post-Pac-12 Championship tournament.
