Another Incredible Day For Women's Tennis At ITA All-Americans

CARY, N.C. – Cary Tennis Park continues to be a friendly venue for the North Carolina women’s tennis program in 2022. On Thursday at the ITA All-American Championships, the Tar Heels knocked out the top-three seeds in the Main Draw Singles field and have four players into the quarterfinals.

Exactly half of the main draw is made up of UNC players – Fiona Crawley, Abbey Forbes, Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda – after each picked up impressive victories in the Round of 16.

No. 21 Crawley took out top seed Sarah Hamner from South Carolina, 6-3, 6-4, in a match played at such a high level that it could have easily been mistaken for Sunday’s final. Crawley also got a little revenge back on Hamner, who won a third-round qualifying match between the two at last year’s ITA All-Americans in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Crawley, who won the Fall Ranked Spotlight at Cary Tennis Park just two weekends ago, will take on No. 58 Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M on Friday.

No. 28 Carson Tanguilig and No. 15 Abbey Forbes won in three-set battles and will play each other in the quarterfinals, and guarantees at least one Tar Heel will make the semifinals.

Tanguilig dropped the opening set to No. 3 seed Chloe Beck of Duke, but won 12 of the 13 points played in the final two sets for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, victory.

Forbes defeated NC State’s 23rd ranked Abigail Rencheli, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

Yarlagadda disposed of No. 2 seed Daria Frayman of Princeton, 6-1, 6-4, and will turn her attention to Tennessee’s Rebeka Mertena for Friday’s quarterfinal.

In doubles, No. 31 Forbes and Elizabeth Scotty were victorious over No. 4 seed Maria Olivia Castedo and Page Freeman, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the quarters.

The Cracked Racquets CrossCourt Cast will provide coverage of the main draw running through the championship matches on Sunday. Offering an elevated experience from the traditional live-stream broadcast, this CrossCourt Cast will offer viewers a unique experience to keep up with all of the best matches on the court.

All of the action will be streamed through the Cracked Racquets YouTube page.
