CARY, N.C. – The run by the California women’s tennis duo of Jessica Alsola and Mao Mushika came to an end Saturday at the ITA All-American Championships, with the tandem losing in the doubles semifinals at Cary Tennis Park.
 
The 16th-ranked Golden Bears fell to UCLA’s 15th-ranked Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle 6-3, 6-2.
 
Playing in their first tournament together as a doubles team, Mushika and Alsola qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship on Friday, when they won their quarterfinal at ITA All-Americans and advanced to the semifinals. Despite their Saturday setback, the two Bears are set to play in the postseason from Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
 
BERKELEY – The Golden Bears produced some strong performances at the Cal Fall Invitational on Saturday, when a Cal pair advanced to the top-flight doubles final and three Bears reached the top-flight singles semifinals at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
 
Top-seeded Bears Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and Naomi Xu defeated Nevada’s Kennedy Robinson and Petra Janigova 8-5 to reach Sunday’s final. They’ll face the second-seeded Saint Mary’s pair of Iman Khan and Olivia Rook at 9 a.m. PT for the doubles title. The Gaels beat the partnership of Cal’s Makenna Thiel and fellow Gael Madison Weekley in the other semifinal 8-4.
 
Bears captured three out of the four blue-flight singles quarterfinals, led by the top-seeded Schomburg, who beat San Jose State’s Olaya Bances Iglesias 7-5, 7-5. In Sunday’s semifinals, Schomburg will take on Cal freshman Sophie Hernandez, who beat Juliette Daries of Saint Mary’s 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. The other semifinal will feature the third-seeded Xu – who dispatched Pacific’s Megan Carmichael 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday – taking on Sacramento State’s Madelyn Ferreros, who beat Thiel 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Both semifinals will start at 10:30 a.m. PT on Sunday.
 
Cal’s Cami Brown advanced to the semifinals of gold-flight singles after her quarterfinal opponent – Stefanie Silva of Saint Mary’s – withdrew with an injury. Brown next plays Nevada’s Janigova at 10:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, the last day of the Cal Fall…
