Jessica Alsola continues postseason play in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Tuesday in Orlando.
ORLANDO, Fla. –Jessica Alsola of the California women’s tennis team, ranked 55th, fell to Georgia’s third-ranked and third-seeded Lea Ma, 6-4 4-6, 6-4, on Monday in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship at the USTA National Campus.
With Alsola leading 3-2 in the first set outdoors, lightning in the area forced the match to move indoors at the USTA National Campus.
In the third set, the Golden Bear took a 2-0 lead and later had a 4-3 edge over the Bulldog. But Ma held serve to tie it at 4-4 and won a break point to take a 5-4 lead before serving out the match.
The 12th-ranked Alsola and Katja Wiersholm – the last Bears standing in the postseason – play in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship against North Carolina’s eighth-ranked Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty on Tuesday at a time to be announced.
