BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –– Alabama’s Joao Ferreira was named to the Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced on Thursday.
Ferreira is making his first appearance on the conference community service team, after serving as one of the leaders for the Crimson Tide within the community. As an upperclassman on a young team, Ferreira has embraced his leadership role since transferring to the Tide in the fall of 2021.
Ferreira, alongside his teammates and the UA women’s tennis team, helped build a house through Habit for Humanity for a person in need within the Tuscaloosa community. His impact on Tuscaloosa continued as the UA junior helped with Tide’s Halloween Extravaganza, an event that celebrates Halloween and allows children in the community to play games and trick-or-treat with Alabama student-athletes. Additionally, he assisted with the NorthRiver Yacht Club’s Men’s Night and signed autographs on the UA Quad to help promote athletic events and allow athletes to interact with the UA community.
The Belo Horizonte, Brazil, native is a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete and will graduate with a degree in business this summer.
