Alabama Women’s Tennis Advances to Semifinals in ITA Southern Regional Championships


Baton Rouge, La. –– Two Alabama women’s tennis student-athletes proceeded to the semifinals in both the singles and doubles main draw on Sunday in Baton Rouge, La.

The Crimson Tide’s Petra Sedlackova defeated Mississippi State’s Dharani Niroshan in two sets to advance to the singles main draw semifinals (6-3, 6-3). Sedlackova then teamed up with doubles partner, Margaux Maquet, for the main draw’s round of 16 where the duo beat Cora Barber and Jiayun Zhu (Tulane), 8-1, to move on to the quarterfinals. Sedlackova and Maquet went on to win their quarterfinals match against Kaitlyn Carnicella and Ava Esposiito Cogan of Auburn to propel to the semifinals (8-6).

  • Sedlackova/Maquet (UA) def. Carnicella/Esposiito Cogan (Auburn), 8-6
