Alabama Takes On Oklahoma in First Round of Blue Gray National Tennis Classic


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ––The No. 38 Alabama men’s tennis team opens the two-day Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Friday against No. 41 Oklahoma. The Crimson Tide (8-2) will go head-to-head with the Sooners (6-3) at 12:30 p.m. CT at Lagoon Park.  

Admission to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic is free.

The Tournament

Date:Friday, Feb. 24-25

Location:Montgomery, Ala.

Venues:Lagoon Park and O’Connor Tennis Center

Opponents: Arizona, Auburn, Middle Tennessee, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Tulane

The Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

  • Eight teams will face off in the tournament as the event features Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Middle Tennessee, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Tulane
  • Alabama last won the tournament in 2016 after defeating Princeton in the finals
  • UA is one of seven teams ranked in the tournament as the Crimson Tide enters the weekend ranked 38th in the ITA rankings
  • Additionally, the tournament will feature No. 14 Arizona, No. 25 Middle Tennessee, No. 36 Auburn, No. 41 Oklahoma, No. 44 Texas Tech and No. 75 Nebraska

  • Alabama enters the weekend with an 8-2 record 
  • The Tide is coming off a 6-1 win over ETSU last Friday
  • UA’s record includes four 7-0 decisions as the team has topped Samford, Chattanooga, Michigan State and Jacksonville State this season
  • No. 94 Filip Planinsek paces the team with an 8-1 dual match record while playing at No. 1  
  • Enzo Aguiard ranks No. 51 in the latest ITA rankings with a 15-7 overall record and a 7-2 dual match record

  • Oklahoma enters the match with a 6-3 record 
  • The Sooners are coming off a loss to Texas A&M, 5-2, last Saturday 
  • The Tide and the Sooners will go head-to-head for the 10th time in series history with Oklahoma holding a 6-3 advantage
  • Oklahoma won the last meeting in February 2022, 6-1
  • The Sooners have four players ranked in singles as Nathan Han leads the squad ranked 71st
  • Justin Schlageter ranks 84th, Jordan Hasson ranks 118th and Alex Martinez ranks 121st to round out the singles lineup
