TULSA, Okla. – Alabama’s 13th-ranked Filip Planinsek competed in the singles main draw while also competing in doubles main draw with partner German Samofalov at the ITA All-American Championships Wednesday, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
No. 13 Planinsek faced Ohio State’s Alexander Bernard in the opening round of the singles main draw. Planinsek gave up only three games in the first set for an early advantage at 6-3. In a back-and-forth second set, the UA sophomore forced a tie but fell 10-8 in the tiebreak. Despite fighting in the third set, Planinsek would suffer a 6-4 defeat.
The No. 33-ranked doubles team of German Samofalov and Planinsek put up a hard fight against TCU’s Luc Fomba and Pedro Vives Marcos. The Tide duo fell in the first set, 6-3, but came back strong with a 6-4 win in the second. Samofalov and Planinsek would be edged 10-8 in the closing set to fall in the match.

Planinsek is set to play in the singles consolation round against No. 19 Noah Schachter of Texas A&M, Thursday at 9 a.m. CT. The doubles duo of Planinsek and Samofalov will compete in the consolation round at 2:30 p.m. CT against No. 10 Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos of Portland.
