Alabama Men’s Tennis Lands Five on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The Alabama men’s tennis team placed five student-athletes on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Scholar-Athlete Team, the organization announced Monday.

Sophomores Zach Foster and German Samofalov both earned the honor for the second time, while freshmen Roan Jones, Matias Ponce de Leon and Yair Sarouk picked up their first academic nod.

The Tide recorded a 3.62 GPA in both the fall and spring semester and led all Alabama male programs for the second consecutive year in cumulative GPA. The academic performance also earned UA its 11th-consective appearance on the ITA All-Academic Team.  

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
