Alabama Men’s Tennis Edged 4-3 in Sunday Showdown

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama men’s tennis program (9-11, 1-6 SEC) dropped a 4-3 battle to LSU (9-7, 1-6 SEC) Sunday afternoon at the LSU Tennis Complex.

After winning court one’s doubles match behind a 6-1 performance from Filip Planinsek and German Samofalov, the Crimson Tide would fall 7-5 on back-to-back courts as the LSU Tigers would steal the doubles point.

In singles play, Alabama’s Roan Jones secured the Tide its first point on court five, beating his opponent in straight sets via a 6-1, 6-2 score. No. 83 Planinsek would give Alabama a 2-1 match lead with his 6-4, 6-4 victory on court one, before LSU would grab its first singles win of the afternoon on court four. The Tigers would claim back-to-back wins on courts six and three, respectively, to secure the match point.

The two teams would play out on court two, as No. 88 Enzo Aguiard won the only three-set battle of the match by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.

“Another battle which we have become accustomed to this season. A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor and its all coming together slowly but surely. We will hold our heads high and keep getting better.”
