Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered a frustrating loss to Kei Nishikori on Thursday in Montreal, and afterwards the Greek spoke to media and said that he felt like he wasn’t able to hit the ball through the court during his 6-4 6-4 loss against the former World No.4.

Tsitsipas said he made a string change over the last few days but still felt like his ball was “dead” and “going nowhere” during Thursday’s second-round loss to Nishikori.

Calling out Apostolos

Tsitsipas said the problem has been happening for five days now, and took some shots at his father and coach Apostolos for not proactively helping him solve the problem.

“I’ve been complaining to my coach about it for the last four or five days,” he said. “That was also the reason I had a confrontation with him during the match. For me an ATP 1000 match is an important match and for me I need and I deserve a coach that listens to me and hears my feedback as a player,” he said.

Clearly Tsitsipas, in a mixed zone with several reporters around him, was ready to take some shots at his father, and he did just that.

“My father hasn’t been very smart or very good at handling those situations, trying to relieve what’s happening inside the court – that’s really poor performance and it’s not the first time he has done that. I’m really disappointed.”

“I really don’t know right now if I’d consider any changes, but I’m very disappointed because the most important thing for a player with a coach is to have direct and good feedback, and to hava a coach that listens to the player. The coach is not the one holding a racket. The player is the one that is trying to execute a game plan and trying to make things happen on the tennis court. I have power in some degree but It’s also a collaborative work that you put in together. It has to be reciprocal in order for me to try to develop my tennis. It’s something that I really don’t want to stay stagnant at.”
