Academic Services May Student-Athletes of the Month


PULLMAN, Wash. (June 11, 2024) – Washington State’s Hania Abouelsaad (Women’s Tennis) and Ainsley Tiernan (Rowing) were each named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for May 2024.
 
Abouelsaad is a redshirt-junior who owns a 3.40 GPA while earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a minor in architectural studies, is working towards a master’s degree in business administration, and is a two-time Pac-12 Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection. This past season, the Alexandria, Egypt native recorded career-highs with 18 singles wins and 14 doubles wins, and was an ITA Academic Achievement Award recipient. Abouelsaad, who has been a member of WSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)) for the past three years, has also volunteered her time at a number of WSU community events including Butch’s Bash, AAPI and Global Coug meetings.
 
Tiernan is a senior who owns a 3.81 GPA while majoring in finance/kinesiology in the honors college, is a two-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete and three-time Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll selection. The South Glastonbury, Conn. native was the coxswain on the 1V8+ who finished fifth at the Pac-12 Conference Championships, and placed first in their Friday afternoon run at the Lake Wheeler Invitational in North Carolina. Tiernan has also served on the team’s leadership council and represented the rowing team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
 
Each month Washington State Academic Services honors two student-athletes who demonstrate commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
