BERKELEY – California men’s tennis earned the No. 3 ranking in the ITA Northwest Region on Wednesday, while three Golden Bears are ranked in singles and one Cal pair is ranked in doubles in the regional polls.
In the first season under Kris Kwinta, the Peter Wright Director of Men’s Tennis, the Bears finished with a national ITA ranking of 51st, posted an 11-10 overall record and were 2-6 in the Pac-12.
In the regional doubles poll, Cal’s Yuta Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck ranked sixth, after a season in which they ranked 36 nationally, competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship and posted a 17-10 record.
In regional singles, Kikuchi – who ranked 98th nationally with a 20-16 record – finished at No. 5 in the northwest, with Philip Hjorth (20-14) ranked 12th and Sean Hill (11-7) ranked 16th.
