Jin drops first round matchup in NCAA Singles Tournament

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators freshman No. 50 Jeremy Jin fell in his first round matchup of the NCAA Men’s Singles Tournament to No. 5 Micah Braswell 6-3, 6-4. The loss concludes the 2024 spring season for the Gators, and a stellar debut campaign for Jin. Jin finishes his first year with a 16-13 singles record between the Fall tour and Spring dual seasons, while collecting All-SEC second team and SEC All-Freshman team honors.

How it Happened
From the start, the match looked primed to be a hard-fought battle for either competitor, with Braswell going up a break in the first game on four double faults by Jin, with Jin immediately responding by managing a break point of his own to start 1-1. Braswell then found a groove, taking two more breaks to go up by a commanding 5-1 lead and eventually seal the first set, 6-3.

The Gator freshman scratched back in the second set, stealing a crucial break point to take a 3-2 lead. Jin couldn’t manage to hold his advantage long, and Braswell tied set two with a break point at 4-4. Braswell held serve for 5-4, and with serve, Jin fended off three straight match points to 40-40. Facing elimination, a Jin forehand clipped the net, and the Texas senior claimed his 36th consecutive singles win, 6-3, 6-4.

NCAA Tournament History
Florida boasts five NCAA individual title winners in program history, including one doubles champion duo and four singles champs. No Gator freshman has ever won an NCAA individual title. Only four freshmen have ever won the singles title, most recently last year when Georgia’s Ethan Quinn took home the crown.
