COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri head tennis coach Bianca Turati announces the signing of Mary Brumfield on Wednesday, May 15. Brumfield comes to Columbia from Maryland with one year of eligibility remaining.
“It felt like home for me and I fell in love with the scenery and vibes on campus,” said Brumfield on choosing Mizzou.
While at College Park, Brumfield totaled a 43-30 record in doubles competition and a 21-24 mark in singles. Ranking as high as No. 40 in ITA doubles in February 2024, the transfer qualified for the ITA Fall Nationals alongside Selma Cedar by advancing to the finals of the 2023 ITA Division I Women’s Doubles Atlantic Regional Championship for the second year in a row. Additionally, the Raleigh, Mississippi native won the sportsmanship award at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 24, 2023.
“Coming from the Big 10 and having had great results at Maryland, Mary brings to our program a lot of experience at a very high level of college tennis,” said Coach Turati on Brumfield. “She is strong and has a powerful game. She loves the game and values hard work. I can’t wait to have Mary join us in the fall. With her enthusiasm and positive energy, I have no doubt she will have a great impact on the team.”
Before college, Brumfield trained at Inspiration Academy in Bradenton, Florida, while attending Florida Virtual School. A five-star recruit coming out of high school by tennisrecruiting.net, she ranked as high as No. 41 in the class of 2021 and was 12th in the State of Florida. Peaking at No. 611 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings, she won the USTA Florida L3. Furthermore, she reached the semifinals and quarterfinals of back-to-back ITF G4 Tournaments in the Dominican Republic.
