CARY, N.C. – The Virginia women’s tennis team (21-3) won 4-0 against Notre Dame (17-9) in the quarterfinals of the 2024 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday (April 19) at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The match, delayed by two hours due to wet courts, started at 8 p.m. on Friday night. The Cavaliers took the doubles point and two singles matches in straight sets to build up a 3-0 lead. Senior Sara Ziodato clinched the match with a three-set victory on court four.
The 2-seed Cavaliers advance to face 3-seed Florida State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the semifinals.
Juniors Mélodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky opened the match with a 6-2 win on the top doubles court. Ziodato and sophomore Meggie Navarro clinched the point with a 6-2 win on court three.
In singles, Chervinsky won 6-2, 6-1 on court five to put UVA up 2-0. Grad student Natasha Subhash followed right after with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court three to give UVA a 3-0 lead.
Ziodato recovered from dropping her first set against Nibi Ghosh 6-3 by taking the second 6-0. She won the third 6-1 to clinch the victory for the Cavaliers.
Florida State defeated 6-seed Miami 4-1 to advance to the semifinals.
