UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team will begin its Big Ten slate on Friday, March 22 against No. 11 Illinois and Sunday, March 24 against Northwestern. Both matches will be held at the Indoor Tennis Center, starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
On Friday, free pizza will be provided to fans. On Sunday will be a free button giveaway.
Sophomore Stefan Simeunovic leads the Nittany Lions with five singles wins this Spring. Senior Miko Eala and Freshman Nolan Ranger follow behind with four wins each. Simeunovic also leads the squad with four doubles wins. As a doubles pair, Simeunovic and Eala have collected four wins together this season.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING ILLINI
Illinois will enter Happy Valley ranked at No. 11, holding a 9-5 record. On their roster, the Fighting Illini hold three ranked singles players, No. 30 Karlis Ozolins, No. 39 Hunter Heck, and No. 55 Kenta Miyoshi. The Orange and Blue also carries two ranked doubles pairings of Heck and Ozolins at No. 3, and Lucas Horve and Oliver Okonkwo at No. 57. Their most recent match against Oklahoma State resulted in a 4-2 loss.
EYEING NORTHWESTERN
The Wildcats currently hold a 5-11 record on the season. They will face No. 1 Ohio State on Friday before traveling to University Park. Their last matchup resulted in a 4-0 loss to Notre Dame. Penn State looks to capture its first win against Northwestern since 2019.
