CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Miyuka Kimoto was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Notre Dame’s Julia Andreach and Page Freeman earned Doubles Team of the Week honors. Duke’s Shavit Kimchi picked up her third overall and second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor.
Kimoto, who was ranked No. 119 in the nation, defeated NC State’s No. 3 Amelia Rajecki and Wake Forest’s No. 28 Casie Wooten over the weekend. The junior battled to a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker finish to claim the win over Rajecki in No. 50 Syracuse’s 4-3 win over then-No. 8 NC State. Kimoto and her doubles partner Viktoriya Kanapatskaya led 5-2 over No. 10 Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo before the match was abandoned. The Orange fell to Wake Forest despite Kimoto’s 6-2, 6-3 win over Wooten. The Oita, Japan, native and Kanapatskaya jumped over 70 spots in the ITA rankings to No. 48 after the weekend.
Andreach and Freeman added two ranked wins at the top doubles spot to their resumes over the weekend, defeating No. 42 Maelie Monfils and Ellie Schoppe of Florida State, 6-3, in Notre Dame’s upset win over the Seminoles. The duo then went on to win 6-2 over No. 45 Isabella Pfennig and Xinyi Nong of No. 20 Miami.
Kimchi tied a Duke freshman record with her sixth match-clinching win of the season, as the Blue Devils cruised to a 7-0 victory over No. 37 Princeton. The Sdey Hemed, Israel, native registered a 6-3, 6-4 singles win on Court 1 before claiming a 6-2 win in doubles while teaming with Katie Codd.
Six teams are ranked in the top 25 of the ITA team rankings, with three teams in the top 10 led by No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 North Carolina and NC State at No. 14. Miami improved to No. 19 and is followed by No. 23 Duke and No. 24 Georgia Tech.
