No. 17 USC Women's Tennis Upsets No. 2 Michigan, 4-2

LOS ANGELES – The No. 17 ranked USC women’s tennis team took down No. 2 Michigan in a thrilling 4-2 victory on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 
 
The match began with a decisive doubles victory for the Trojans. The stellar No. 52 ranked pair of Parker Fry and Grace Piper set the tone for the match with a 6-3 win against Julia Flienger and Lily Jones on court 3. Next, Lily Fairclough and McKenna Koenig beat Reese Miller and Piper Charney 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for USC on court 2.
 
The Trojans carried their momentum into singles, claiming three individual matches against the Wolverines. USC fifth-year No. 95 Eryn Cayetano downed No. 57 Lily Jones 6-3, 6-3 on court five and started a cascade of Trojan wins. Next, freshman Lily Fairclough defeated Piper Charney 6-3, 7-6(1), claiming another point for USC. The Wolverines put their second and final point on the board as No. 9 Kari Miller beat No. 52 Snow Han 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 on court one. 
 
In a significant upset to seal the deal, No. 103 Grace Piper beat No. 18 Julia Fliegner 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, clinching the match for USC on court 3. The remaining match was abandoned with No. 124 Gala Mesochoritou leading against No. 20 Emma Charney with a score of 5-7, 7-6 (5), 2-1. 
 
USC is back in action on Friday, March 1, as the Trojans head across town for a 1:30 p.m. PT matchup against rival UCLA.
