Badawi and Nguyen Named No. 58 in Latest ITA Doubles Rankings

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Amira Badawi and Mai Nguyen of Rutgers women’s tennis have been named the No. 58 doubles pair in the country according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings that were released on February 7.

The national ranking comes on the heels of a 5-2 record as a duo throughout Rutgers’ 2023 fall campaign. The pair of Scarlet Knights took down opponents from Yale, Brown, Boston, Fordham, and Temple across three events.

Nguyen and Badawi’s five wins as a team was the most out of the 18 different duos used by the Scarlet Knights.

Badawi, a transfer from NJIT, has been with Rutgers since the 2022 fall campaign. A season ago, the Cairo, Egypt, native saw action in 19 dual matches, recording nine singles and four doubles wins.

One of Badawi’s four doubles wins came against Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff of Ohio State, who ranked No. 28 in the country at the time. The win, with partner Tara Chilton, marked just the second ranked victory in program history.

Nguyen has competed in each of RU’s five dual competitions this spring. The sophomore is tied for a team-high three singles wins, and also has contributed two doubles victories.

During the 2023 dual season, Nguyen saw action in 22 matches, with eight singles and six doubles victories.
