CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s tennis graduate student James Hopper has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (Jan. 16) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
In his first dual matches in a Virginia uniform, Hopper went 2-0 at the top doubles position and picked up a pair of singles victories.
In singles, he opened Saturday’s doubleheader with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 position against Liberty’s Luis Felipe Miguel before picking up a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 against JMU’s Esteve Agusti in the second match.
Hopper partnered with Edoardo Graziani in doubles, picking up a pair of 6-1 victories on the top court.

Hopper is in his first season with the Cavaliers after a highly-decorated four-year career at NCAA III Case Western Reserve where he was a four-time All-American in both singles and doubles, winning two NCAA III doubles titles as well as leading the Spartans to the 2023 NCAA III team title.
