Akli to Play for National Title – University of South Carolina Athletics

San Diego, Calif. – South Carolina women’s tennis graduate Ayana Akli will play for a national title tomorrow after claiming a win in the semifinals of the ITA National Fall Championships.

In her semifinal match, Akli faced Southern California’s Emma Charney where she claimed her fourth consecutive straight set win at the event, taking the Trojan down 6-3, 6-4.

Akli will now face No. 5 Reese Brantmeier of North Carolina for the title. The two players have never faced in collegiate action before. Brantmeier previously knocked fellow Gamecock Sarah Hamner out of the draw in the quarterfinals.

The Silver Spring, Maryland, native is the first in program history to ever advance to the title match of the National Fall Championships.
