One of the highlight events of the fall tennis season will take place near the UNC campus this weekend when the Cary Tennis Park hosts the ITA Carolina Regional Championships. The annual event will begin on Friday and run through Tuesday.
At least six University of North Carolina players are expected to participate in this weekend’s action in the singles draw, along with a pair of Tar Heel doubles teams.
UNC players slated to take part include sophomore Will Jansen (ranked #70 in singles by the ITA), graduate student Karl Poling (#93), graduate student Anuj Watane (#106) and graduate student Will Peters (because he reached the qualifying draw of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., earlier this fall). Also scheduled to see action are Logan Zapp and Peter Murphy. Dennis Perumov is a possible participant on the alternate list.
In doubles, the teams and Poling/Peters and Murphy/Zapp will see action.
The regional doubles champions and finalists and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships next month.
