USC Men’s Tennis Heads to Malibu for the ITA Southwest Regional Championship

LOS ANGELES – The USC Men’s Tennis team hits the road this week, traveling north to take on the ITA Southwest Regional Championships Oct. 19-23 at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.

USC aims to repeat their dominance in the tournament, as the Trojans swept the 2022 accolades with both the singles and doubles titles. No. 22 junior Peter Makk was crowned the singles champion, while graduate student Stefan Dostanic and now-USC alum Bradley Frye captured the doubles title.

The Trojans have been out of action since the ITA All-American Championships (Sept. 30 – Oct. 8), which saw Makk make it into the round of 16 in the singles play main draw. Senior Lodewijk Weststrate and No. 63 junior Wojtek Marek also enjoyed successful tournaments, going 4-1 and 3-1 in singles action respectively.

Now, the team will make the trip North to Malibu to take on other top teams in the southwest region. Six Trojans will see action on the singles side: Makk will look to replicate last season’s victory while Marek, Weststrate, junior Karl Lee, graduate student Sam Rubell and senior Niroop Vallabhaneni will look to make deep runs. On the doubles side, the Trojans will field three teams with Lee and Makk, Marek and Rubell and Westrate and Vallabhaneni.

Action will kick off Thursday at Pepperdine University. Tournament details can be found at the link here.
