Jessica Alsola won five matches in four days at the ITA All-American Championships.

CARY, N.C. – Jessica Alsola completed a notable campaign at the ITA All-American Championships in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw, with the California women’s tennis junior falling to South Carolina’s Sarah Hamner, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Friday at Cary Tennis Park.

Of the five opponents the 47th-ranked Alsola defeated in North Carolina, four were nationally ranked, including Texas A&M’s 56th-ranked Mia Kupres and USC’s 38th-ranked Eryn Cayetano, whom the Cal star beat in qualifying singles. In the first round of the main draw, the Fresno product bested Michigan’s 80th-ranked Lily Jones, and Alsola beat Stanford’s 14th-ranked Angelica Blake in the round of 16 before facing the 25th-ranked Hamner. Alsola also knocked off Arizona State’s Marianna Argyrokastriti in qualifying singles.

“Beating ranked players in four of the five matched she played in is a tremendous start to the season for Jessica and for our team,” Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. “She’s an outstanding representative of our program and is a team captain. I’m excited to see how our team’s season and her season continue to progress.”

The season continues when the Golden Bears compete in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships from Oct. 13-17 at Stanford.
