Madison, Wis. – Wisconsin’s Gabriel Huber, Michael Minasyan and Mihailo Popovic are set to compete in their second tournament of the fall season at the ITA All-American Championships. Qualifying rounds begin on Monday with the Main Draw running from Wednesday to Sunday. The event will be held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa and Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Here are five things to know before the tournament commences.
1. MAIN DRAW DOUBLES: Ranked No. 12 on the ITA Top-60 Preseason National Doubles list, the duo of Huber and Minasyan will avoid the Pre-Qualifying and Qualifying doubles rounds and skip straight to the Main Draw of 32 pairs. Last season, the partners posted an 11-17 overall record, winning the ITA Regionals Doubles Championships during the fall tournament circuit. They were previously ranked as high as No. 24 in the country and competed at the No. 1 doubles position. So far this season, the pair has played two matches, going 1-1 at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
2. QUALIFYING SINGLES DRAW: All three players will be competing in the qualifying singles rounds which runs from Monday to Tuesday. The Singles Draw begins with 128 players and will cut down to 64 ahead of the Main Draw. Popovic was Wisconsin’s top-ranked singles player to start off the season, earning No. 83 on ITA’s Top-125 Preseason National Singles.
3. ABOUT ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS: This year’s event marks the 43rd annual ITA All-American Championships and the 16th-straight time the event has been hosted by the University of Tulsa. This will be the Badgers’ ninth time competing in the tournament since the 2013-14 season.
