Krug Brothers Finish 3-0 to Highlight Day Two of Gamecock Ranked +1


COLUMBIA, S.C – Juniors Connor Krug and Jake Krug finished the second day of the Gamecock Ranked +1 undefeated after advancing to the finals of the doubles B bracket and collecting one win each in singles action.
 
The Krug duo powered past Arizona’s Inaki Cabrera and Gustaf Strom, 8-4, in their opening doubles match, before besting Edoardo Graziani and James Hopper of Virginia, 8-6, in their second match. The pair will battle Colorado’s Jayden Templeman and Max Westphal in the finals of the B bracket on Sunday at 9 a.m.
 
In singles play, Duke finished 3-1 on the day, including two wins over nationally ranked opponents. In the B bracket, both Connor Krug and graduate student Andrew Zhang defeated their ranked foes. Connor Krug bested No. 65 Alejandro Moreno of Auburn, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, while Zhang defeated No. 101 Graziani of Virigina in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
 
Additionally, Jake Krug claimed a three-set thriller over Billy Blaydes of Auburn. He secured a 7-5 victory in the opening frame but dropped the second 6-3. The Lakewood, Ranch, Fla., native bounced back for the 6-2 win in the final set to register the win.
