DURHAM – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Tuesday that four Blue Devils were named to the organization’s preseason national singles and doubles rankings.
In singles, sophomore Pedro Rodenas and graduate student Andrew Zhang were tabbed No. 18 and No. 64, respectively, heading into the fall season.
Rodenas, the Madrid, Spain, native is coming off an impressive rookie season in which he was tabbed a singles All-American as well as the ACC Freshman of the Year and ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year. He finished first on the team with 33 overall singles wins (33-7) and 26 dual victories (26-2). Zhang, a two-time team captain finished second on the team with 22 overall singles wins (22-12), including a 13-9 dual record on courts two (6-3) and three (7-6).
In doubles play, Zhang and fellow classmate Michael Heller secured the No. 10 spot, while the duo of Rodenas and Connor Krug ranked No. 33. Zhang and Heller posted a 13-8 overall ledger last season, including an 8-6 mark in dual action. Rodenas and Krug will play their first action together this fall season.
