Baris Falls in Round of 32 at NCAA Singles Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. – Michigan State men’s tennis freshman Ozan Baris fell to Stanford’s Nishesh Basavareddy, 6-1, 6-4, in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championship Tuesday morning in Orlando.

Baris, the first Spartan to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Singles Championship since 2007 and first freshman since 1996, ends his rookie season with an 11-12 dual record.

Baris was named First-Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten Freshman of the Year following an impressive spring campaign, the first Spartan to earn Freshman of the Year honors since 1993.

Baris will compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship alongside sophomore Max Sheldon Tuesday at 7 p.m., facing top-seeded Toby Samuel and Connor Thomson of South Carolina.
