BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech freshman Ozlem Uslu will represent the women’s tennis team in the 2023 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 17-20.
Uslu has been a fixture for the Hokies this season anchoring Court 1 throughout the second half of the year for Tech. The freshman phenom compiled an incredible 16-7 record that includes five ranked wins headlined by a victory over No. 7 Carol Lee of Georgia Tech which earned her ACC Freshman of the Week honors.
The Gebze, Turkey native produced a 7-2 record on Court 2 to begin her freshman campaign before being promoted to Court 1. After defeating Syracuse’s Zeynep Erman, she entered the ITA rankings at No. 115 and would continue to climb as the season went on. Uslu was dominate in the Hokies only ACC win, 5-2 against Louisville, picking up a 6-4 win in doubles followed by a straight set victory against Andrea Di Palma. Uslu is currently ranked as the No. 51 player in the nation, leading the Hokies in singles victories.
Uslu becomes the fourth Hokie under head coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Woods to be selected to the field, following behind former Tech players Francesca Fusinato, Inga Beerman and Natalie Novotna. She joins Inga Beerman as the second freshman in Virginia Tech history to participate in the NCAA Tournament.
