THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis (12-12, 3-7 ACC) will close out regular season competition this weekend with two ACC road matches at Virginia Tech and No. 7 Virginia.
The Jackets start the weekend with Virginia Tech on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m. The Hokies are currently 8-14 and 2-8 in conference play. One of Virginia Tech’s losses was against Notre Dame, the team that Tech defeated 4-0 last Sunday on Senior Day.
Tech will close out the weekend at Virginia on Sunday at 12 p.m. Virginia is one of the top programs in the country right now as the team is currently undefeated in ACC competition and has a 19-4 overall record. The Wahoos are 11-4 against nationally ranked opponents and 11-2 at home.
Tech heads into competition after going 1-1 in its last weekend at home. The Jackets were narrowly defeated by Louisville, 3-4, but bounced back on Sunday with a dominating 4-0 win over Notre Dame. The top performers for the Jackets were No. 9 Andres Martin and No. 79 Keshav Chopra. Both players went 2-0 in singles and doubles play. The duo’s doubles victory on Sunday aided Tech in gaining a 1-0 advantage over Notre Dame.
Martin continues to the be the standout for Tech in singles competition. He is 19-4 in dual match play and is currently on an eight-match winning streak. The junior has also defeated an impressive 13 matches against nationally-ranked players.
Chopra stepped up for the Jackets in their final home matches of the season. Not only did he tie the match at 3-3 against Louisville on Friday, but he clinched Tech’s 4-0 victory over Notre Dame with an upset in singles play. Chopra has a 16-7 dual match record and is on a two-match win streak after his performance in conference play last weekend.
In this final weekend of the regular season, Tech will face tough conference opponents before heading to Cary, N.C. for the ACC Championships next week.
