Ducks Come Up Short to Sun Devils

USC

TEMPE, Ariz.  – Oregon men’s tennis came up just short today, falling 4-3 to Arizona State.

The Ducks were down a point after the doubles point went to Arizona State with wins on courts one and two. Oregon’s pair of Vlad Breazu and Luke Vandecasteele won court three 6-4.

Oregon’s hole got deeper after courts one and six in singles went to the Sun Devils. Breazu won his fourth match in a row on court five, 7-5, 6-4 to keep the Ducks in this one. Ivailo Keremedchiev got the second point for Oregon, 6-4, 6-1 and the tide seemed to turn for Oregon.

Klov-Nilsson won his first set 6-4 and then was even at six-all in the second, forcing a tiebreak. Klov-Nilsson came up clutch with a 7-5 tiebreaker for the straight-set win.

Even at 3-3, the Ducks needed a result on court two, where Quinn Vandecasteele was even at one set apiece. ASU would take a commanding lead and a 6-1 win that clinched the match for the Sun Devils.

Oregon will be back on the road next weekend, facing UCLA and USC in Los Angeles.
