Men’s Tennis Tame the Huskies 4-2 Under the Bright Lights

TEMPE – The Sun Devils (12-8, 1-4) secured a conference win against the Washington Huskies (10-7, 1-2) in a gritty, down-to-the-wire match. The doubles point was secured by Arizona State thanks to Murphy Cassone and Max McKennon taking victories on court No. 2 and Roi Ginat and Spencer Brachman on court No. 3 after the Huskies took the match on court No. 1. Moving toward singles play, Cassone, Brachman and McKinnon earned victories to take the Sun Devils to victory Friday night at Whiteman Tennis Center. The team will return to the court against Oregon at 10:30 a.m. AZT, where they defeated the Ducks 4-0 at the ASU Invite last month.

How It Happened:

• Washington’s Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn took the opening match of doubles play, but the duo of McKinnon and Cassone cruised ASU to victory on court No. 2 with a 6-2 victory, then Ginat and Brachman took care of business on court No. 3 to take the doubles point.
• Cassone continued his stellar play, dominating the opposition with a quick 6-2, 6-1 victory to give the Sun Devils their second point of the match. his fourth straight set victory of the year. Brachman was able to win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 to inch ASU closer to victory.
• Despite Washington being able to claim two points, Max McKennon won the opening set of his singles match 6-3 over Dzianis Zharyn, but managed to bounce back to force a third set. After being down 0-3 early in the decisive set, McKennon managed to chip away, taking advantage of three break points from Zharyn to eventually win the match for the Sun Devils, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

The Sun Devils are back in action on Easter Sunday as they look to gain another conference win against No. 48 Oregon. The match is slated to start at 10:30 a.m. MST and will be streamed via ASU Live Stream.
