Ducks Fall to 13th-Ranked Cardinal

EUGENE, Ore. – Facing a lineup with four players ranked in the nation’s top 75, No. 43 Oregon was unable to pull off an upset of No. 13 Stanford, as the Cardinal took a 4-0 decision Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
 
“I thought we fought hard,” said head coach Courtney Nagle. “I think no matter who we play, we can compete with anyone. We have to keep showing up every day to compete. In tennis, you never know what can happen.”
 
Oregon (11-6, 4-3), who faced its second straight top-20 Pac-12 foe and sixth ranked opponent of the season, dropped the doubles point after the Cardinal’s Nos. 1 and 3 teams each won 6-1. UO’s top pair of Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral took on the country’s 25th-ranked tandem of Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina.
 
On the singles side, Martinez Moral won the opening set off Blokhina, the country’s 75th-ranked player, 6-2, on court four. The match was even at 3-3 in the second set when the match was clinched. Martinez Moral’s spring singles record remains at a team-bet 11-2.
 
Stanford picked up singles points on courts one, two and six. No. 12 Connie Ma got by Luescher at the top spot while No. 20 Alexandra Yepifanova defeated Ares Teixido Garcia in straight sets on court two and Emma…
