No. 59 Women’s Tennis Hosts Final Home Matches of the Season


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 59 Penn state women’s tennis team (10-9) will host its final home matches of the season on Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m. against No. 58 Iowa (8-7) and on Sunday, April 9 at 11 a.m. versus No. 65 Nebraska (13-5). 
 
The match on Sunday will be Senior Day to celebrate graduate students Ioana Gheorghita and Carla Girbau.

PREVIEWING PENN STATE
 
The Nittany Lions are returning to match play after a week with no competition. The team’s last match was a 7-0 sweep over Indiana.
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau clinched the doubles point for the Blue and White with their win over Saby Nihalani and Lara Schneider.
 
Chekhlystova also clinched the match with her singles win over Schneider. 
 
HOW ABOUT THE HAWKEYES
 
The Iowa women’s tennis team is coming off of a 4-2 loss to Indiana. The Hawkeyes took the doubles point, but ultimately gave up four singles matches to face defeat.
 
NAVIGATING NEBRASKA
 
The Nebraka women’s tennis team’s last match was a 4-1 loss against No. 47 Purdue. Nebraska gave up the doubles point and three singles matches for Purdue to win the match.
 
The Huskers will compete against No. 8 Ohio State on Friday prior to coming to Happy Valley.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Nittany Lions will hit the road to take on Michigan on Saturday, April 15 and play Michigan State on Sunday, April 16 at 11 a.m.
