Blue Devils Win 25th Straight at Home With 4-0 Victory Over WFU

DURHAM – The sixth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team registered their 25th straight home victory on Thursday afternoon with a 4-0 win over 24th-ranked Wake Forest (14-10, 4-6 ACC).  The Blue Devils improved to 21-2 overall and 10-1 in the ACC with the victory.  

The match began outside in the Ambler Tennis Stadium, but due to lightning in the area was forced to move in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center where the Blue Devils clinched the victory.  

How It Happened

•    The Blue Devils came out and were impressive again in doubles taking a 1-0 lead in the match.  

•    On court two, the Duke duo of Karolina Berankova and Emma Jackson remained undefeated by sweeping Mia Ahmad and Casie Wooten, 6-0.

•    The Blue Devils clinched the doubles point on court three as Iuliia Bryzgalova and Georgia Drummy went ahead, 3-1, and then led 4-2.  After the Demon Deacon duo of Nevena Carton and Whitley Pate cut the Duke lead to 4-3, the Blue Devils won a key deuce point to go ahead, 5-3.  Duke went on to clinch the point with a 6-4 win to also remain unbeaten on the season.  

•    On court one, Ellie Coleman and Chloe Beck played together for the Blue Devils.  Their match against No. 23 Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth was tied, 5-5, when the point was clinched.

•    In singles, the Blue Devils set the tone early winning the first game and first set on all six courts.  

•    At 6:43 p.m., lightning in the area forced the match inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The match restarted at 6:59 p.m.
