FINISHING STRONG
While the ACC road trip didn’t pan out for the Hokies last weekend their is still meaningful tennis left to played. Tech will honor its three seniors, Lily Hackbirth, Kirsten Husted, and Sophie Mitchell on Sunday against the Yellow Jackets. Although the Hokies will have senior day on Sunday, it has been the emergence of freshman Özlem Uslu that has been the headline this season. The Gebze, Turkey native downed No. 108 Vic Allen of Florida State to claim her second ranked win of the season moving her to 4-4 in conference play. The freshman phenom aims to continue her success against a formidable slate of ACC foes.
TIGERS
Clemson (14-7, 2-6) enters this weekends matchup sitting at 11th in the conference standings. The Tigers are coming off of a successful non-conference weekend winning both matches against Chattanooga and No. 24 UCF. The match was tied 3-3 with Court 3 left as the decisive point to earn. With the third set tied 2-2, junior Daniella Medvedeva rattled off four straight games to clinch the victory. The win saw Medvedeva improve to a whopping 16-2 on the season.
YELLOW JACKETS (SENIOR DAY)
The Yellow Jackets closed out non-conference play last week, topping then-No. 24 UCF in a 4-3 battle that came down to the final match. Extending its win streak to three-straight matches, the Yellow Jackets captured the doubles point and three singles matches to defeat the Knights. Sophomore Kylie Bilchev clinched the overall match from the No. 2 position, topping Sophia Biolay in three sets to secure the victory. Georgia Tech boasts four players in the national individual rankings released last week, paced by No. 7 Carol Lee. Bilchev, Lee and Mahak Jain lead the Yellow Jackets with 12 dual singles wins each on the season. In doubles action, Bilchev and Alejandra Cruz lead Tech with an 8-4 dual match record, including a 7-2 mark at the No. 2 position.
