GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Diana Shnaider earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors while Florida State’s Millie Bissett and Notre Dame’s Bojana Pozder share the ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week award.
Shnaider helped lift then-No. 9 NC State to a 4-3 upset of No. 2 Ohio State. The freshman, who is ranked No. 52 in the country, defeated No. 22 Sydni Ratliff in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), at the top singles position. She also handed the No. 11 duo of Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers a loss at the No. 1 doubles spot in a tiebreak fashion, 7-6 (7-1). This is Shnaiders third weekly honor this season and second consecutive award. With the win, NC State is now ranked fourth in the country.
Bissett tallied four wins for Florida State against Syracuse and Boston College playing at the No. 2 doubles spot and No. 6 singles spot. Her three-set 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win gave the Seminoles the 3-2 go-ahead lead, before the Orange captured the match. Her 6-1, 6-3 dominant victory during Florida State’s first conference win of the season extended the Seminoles’ lead to 2-0 to set up the 5-2 victory.
Pozder went undefeated on the weekend, posting a singles win against No. 30 Georgia Tech in two sets, 6-3, 6-2. The Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, native added two doubles victories to her resume against Georgia Tech and in Notre Dame’s 4-1 win over No. 29 Clemson.
