No. 1 Women’s Tennis Travels To Virginia & Virginia Tech


The No. 1 ranked UNC Women’s Tennis team will hit the road to open ACC play, taking on No. 20 Virginia and Virginia Tech. This road trip comes after a  10-day break from competitions following the grueling four days in Seattle that saw the Tar Heels claim the fourth consecutive ITA Indoor National Championship.

Virginia is coming off a 1-3 performance in Seattle at the ITA Indoor National Championships. The Hoos falling to Michigan 2-4 in the Round of 16, Pepperdine 1-4 and Day II before taking down San Diego 4-1 on Day III.

The Cavaliers have four ranked players at singles No. 38 Julia Adams, No. 50 Annabelle Xu, No. 92 Hibah Shaikh, No. 110 Natasha Subhash, along with two ranked tandems at doubles No. 7 Elaine Chervinsky/ Natasha Subhash No. 41 Julia Adams/Melodie Collard.

 

Sunday, Feb. 26 – Virginia Tech

The 8-1 Hokies are coming off back-to-back wins last weekend over Liberty 502, and West Virginia 4-0. On Friday, Va. Tech will host Duke at 1 pm, to open ACC Play, before a Sunday matinee via the Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels are coming off a fourth consecutive ITA Indoor National Championship, having taken down Pepperdine 4-1 in the Round of 16, Michigan 4-1 in the Quarterfinals, Texas A&M 4-2 in the semifinals, and Georgia 4-0 in the Championship Match.

Carolina enters ACC dual match play with a 14-0 overall record.

The top ranked Heels in that ITA poll, have seven ranked players in singles with No. 1 Fiona Crawley, No. 7 Carson Tanguilig, No. 13 Abbey Forbes, No. 23 Anika Yarlagadda, No. 27 Reese Brantmeier, No. 56 Elizabeth Scotty, No. 75 Reilly Tran. In doubles, the pairings of No. 4 Fiona Crawley/Carson Tanguilig, No. 22 Carson Tanguilig/Reilly Tran continue to be ranked with No. 37 Reese Brantmeier/Elizabeth Scotty joining the rankings for the first time this season.

Following a weekend slate of ACC road games in the Commonwealth, the Tar Heels will return home to Face Louisville and Notre Dame.
