No. 15 Gators Set for Pair of Matches at Home


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women’s tennis will remain at home this week for a pair of matches against Florida Gulf Coast and No. 25 Pepperdine.
 
The No. 15 Gators will welcome FGCU on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for a 1 p.m. ET matchup before Pepperdine heads to Gainesville on Friday, Feb. 24 for a 5 p.m. ET first serve.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. FGCU
Florida and Florida Gulf Coast, despite just being four hours away from each other in the state, will meet for the first time in program history on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles enter Wednesday with a 7-2 record, falling only to Florida State and Miami.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. PEPPERDINE

Pepperdine, ranked No. 25 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s rankings behind a 3-2 record, will meet the Orange & Blue for the 10th time in program history, with UF holding a perfect 9-0 mark against the Waves. The two squads last met on Feb. 4, 2017, with Florida taking a 5-2 victory. In Gainesville, the Gators are 1-0 against Pepperdine.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Florida earned their fourth-consecutive win over in-state rival Florida State on Thursday, Feb. 9, downing the Seminoles 4-1 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. After falling in the doubles point, the Gators responded quickly with Alicia Dudeney evening the match at one on court two, 6-4, 6-2. Emily De Oliveira and Sara Dahlstrom each earned hard-fought wins on courts six and three, respectively, before freshman Rachel Gailis secured the win on court four, 6-4, 6-0.
 
ITA RANKINGS
As a team, the Gators moved up two spots from the last ITA rankings, checking in at No. 15 ahead of their two matches this week. Carly Briggs is the highest-ranked Gator, sitting at 61st, while Sara Dahlstrom (83) and Anastasia Sysoeva (106) also make an appearance in the rankings.
 
SEC STRONG

The Southeastern Conference has again established itself as one of the best conferences nationally in women’s tennis, owning six top-15 teams in the newest ITA rankings. Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M all sit right next to each other at five through seven, while Tennessee (12), Vanderbilt (13) and Florida (15) round out the top-15.
