Cardinal Outlast Commodores

Seattle, Wash. — The No. 9 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team dropped its final match in Seattle with a 4-2 loss to No. 6 Stanford.

The Cardinal won the doubles point, heading into singles with a 1-0 advantage over the Dores. Freshman Bridget Stammel put the Dores on the board with her two-set victory. Anessa Lee improved to 11-0 in singles after she won her match on Court 5.

“Tough one again today, but this is the level of tennis we expected all weekend. We regrouped and had chances in most of the singles matches but lost some close first sets, and I thought Stanford played well in those matches,” head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. “Anessa and Bridget were outstanding in singles, picking up those points for us. This is a tough tournament, but the experience of playing these matches early in the season will be invaluable to us going forward as we wrap up non-conference play in the next two weekends.”
