Tigers Fall to VCU Saturday – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

LYNCHBURG, VA. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (7-2) came up short on Saturday afternoon to VCU (6-1) 4-0 at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Complex.

The Tigers got off to a quick start in doubles, as Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith went two-for-two from Court 2 this weekend, earning a 6-2 victory. The Rams quickly flipped the script, registering two wins on Courts 3 and 1 for the doubles point, giving the Tigers an opportunity to battle in singles play.

The Rams took hold of the momentum from singles and won the first two singles matches on Court 6 and 2 by a score of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4. Azuma battled VCU’s #105 Bobichon, playing great tennis but fell 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) on Court 1 for VCU to clinch the match.

The Tigers will return to Duckworth Family Tennis Facility on Friday, Feb. 17 as they will play FAU at 2 p.m. and Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 19 at noon.
