Men's Tennis Returns to Tempe for Weekend Matches


TEMPE, Ariz.- Arizona State men’s tennis returns home this weekend and will host San Diego on Friday at 5 p.m. MST and Pepperdine on Sunday at 1 p.m. MST. Both meets will stream live on the ASU Live Stream. The first 100 fans at each match will get free treats. 

First 100 fans on Friday get free Chick-fil-A, first 100 fans Sunday get coffee and donuts from Starbucks.

Sun Devil Outlook

The Sun Devils opened their season at home back on Jan. 12 and 13 with hidden duals against Illinois, and they also picked up two dual wins over Bryant and Wichita State on Jan. 15. ASU traveled to Waco, Texas, to compete at the ITA Kickoff Weekend where they came up short in duals against then-No. 12 Baylor, 2-4, on Friday and against San Diego, 2-4, on Saturday. Murphy Cassone picked up two singles wins in Waco, and Roi Ginat and Jacob Bullard also picked up wins over the weekend.

Scouting the Opponents

This will be the Sun Devils’ second time in as many weeks facing San Diego as the Toreros took down ASU 4-2 on Friday. San Diego has wins against No. 23 Texas A&M and a conference win against San Francisco. USD swept the WCC weekly awards, with Oliver Tarvet earning Singles Player of the Week, and Marvin Schaber and Stian Klaassen earning Doubles Team of the Week.

Pepperdine competed in Palo Alto last weekend, splitting their matches with a win over Georgia Tech on Monday and falling against Texas A&M on Sunday. The Waves’ Daniel De Jonge is ranked No. 31 in the country and the team was picked to finish first in the WCC.
