RALEIGH – Third-ranked NC State women’s tennis (2-1) battled to fight back against No. 21 Vanderbilt (3-0) but came up short in the end.
Switching up the doubles pairing from yesterday was no issue for the Wolfpack as it took care of business quickly. Gina Dittmann matched up with Amelia Rajecki to take on the No. 55 ranked Vanderbilt squad and were victorious first with a 6-3 decision. Shortly after, Alana Smith and Anna Zyryanova took up the second win with the same score to declare the doubles point for NC State.
The singles competition led to a hard back and forth fight between the two teams. No. 13 Smith handled business as usual, as she took down Vanderbilt’s No. 33 Mohr 6-2, 6-4. The only other singles win for the day was No. 97 Abrams, who earned her victory after battling through three sets and two of those being tiebreakers.
All six singles courts were played out, as it came down to third sets on the last three singles courts before Vanderbilt ultimately collected its win.
