Facing a stiff test in the first round against fellow All-American Chloe Beck from Duke, ranked fifth nationally, Ma proved her worth, advancing 6-4, 6-2.
She then rolled past Arkansas’ Carolina Gomez Alonso to advance to the quarterfinals where she defeated North Carolina’s Carson Tanguilig in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, the 28th-ranked player in the country.
The semifinal matchup with Princeton’s No. 3 Daria Frayman was an epic, nearly three hour match, with many chances, but Ma ultimately fell in a thriller, 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(4).
Angelica Blake and Alexandra Yepifanova both went 0-2 at the event for the Cardinal.
