STARKVILLE – Head coach Daryl Greenan and the Mississippi State women’s tennis program made a splash with the addition of five-star Jayna Clemens.
Clemens joins the Bulldogs out of Lewisville, Texas and is a product of the Lakes Tennis Academy. Clemens is currently rated the No. 3 player in Texas, No. 4 in the Gulf States and is ranked 38th nationally by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
“We are very excited to welcome Jayna to the Bulldog family,” Greenan said. “Jayna is a hardworking and committed player who we think will fit right in and make an immediate impact. She is quite a fighter on the court, and we fell like she will thrive in the college setting.”
For her career, Clemens has won a total of 35 singles matches and 25 doubles matches.
Clemens competed in the 2022 J4 Bayamon Tournament in Puerto Rico on Mar. 14-19 where she earned the 7-5, 6-2 victory in the final round of the tournament to clinch the Grade 4 singles title.
In 2021, Clemens competed in the J4 Guatemala Doubles Tournament in Guatemala City on June 7-12 where she was paired with Anya Murthy. The tandem made it to the final round of the tournament where they defeated Avery Jennings and Kaitlin Quevedo 5-7, 6-0, 10-6 to earn the Grade 4 doubles title.
She recently competed in the L4 Corpus Christi ITF tournament, where she won a singles match 6-1, 6-1 in the main draw first round. Earlier this year, Clemens earned two singles victories at the J3 Coral Gables tournament.
“We have enjoyed getting to know Jayna through the recruiting process,” Greenan said. “We are excited to see her fulfill her potential in the Maroon and White.”
Clemens will arrive on campus and begin her career as a Bulldog in the fall of 2023.
