Oregon Finishes Fall Slate at Watanabe Classic

LAS VEGAS – The Oregon women’s tennis team concludes its fall schedule at the Watanabe Classic, as the three-day tournament hosted by UNLV gets under way Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
Head coach Courtney Nagle will send the group of junior Lillian Mould, junior Myah Petchey, junior Ares Teixido Garcia and sophomore Karin Young to compete in both the singles and doubles draws of the event.
 
The annual Watanabe Classic will feature players from Iowa, Long Beach State, San Diego State, UNLV and Utah. Two doubles bracket kick off the invitational at 10 a.m. PT, with four singles brackets set to start Friday at 11 a.m. PT.
 
Mould and Petchey will be paired together in Flight 1 of the doubles bracket, as they will take on the doubles team of Molly Helgesson and Zita Kovacs from host UNLV. Teixido Garcia and Young will team up to take on Iowa’s doubles tandem of Pia Kranholdt and Anya Lamoreaux in Flight 2.
 
On the singles side, Petchey has drawn Daianne Hayashida out of Iowa in the first round of Flight 1. In Flight 2, Teixido Garcia will meet SDSU’s Alicia Melosch while Mould will battle the Running Rebels’ Salsa Aher in Flight 3. At noon PT in Flight 4, Young will face off with LBSU’s Sheena Masuda.
 
Each singles flight features eight players while each doubles bracket has eight doubles pairs. Semifinal play in both singles and doubles will begin Saturday while championship and consolation finals will take place Sunday.
