ITA Run Comes to Close for Illini Doubles Duo

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Kate Duong and Megan Heuser’s run through the ITA Midwest Regional and National Fall Championships has come to a close following a round of 16 battle from San Diego, California, on Thursday.

“It’s certainly not the result we wanted today but it doesn’t take away anything Megan & Kate have accomplished in doubles this fall,” shared Illinois women’s tennis head coach Evan Clark. “They’ve had a great run and have shown they can be one of the best doubles teams in the country. The confidence and experience they have gained this fall will undoubtedly pay dividends in the spring. We are all very proud of what they have accomplished over the last month.”

The Illini women’s tennis tandem had won its previous six outings leading up to Thursday’s loss to [5-8] Brown/Miller of Michigan. The decision came in a 6-3, 6-1 fashion from the Barnes Tennis Center.

Duong and Heuser were the first Illini duo to compete in the ITA National Fall Championships since it replaced the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in 2017. The duo became the first Illini to reach the regional finals since Melissa Kopinski and Rachael White in 2012.

The Illinois duo is now 9-3 when working together across all fall competition, including an 8-2 mark in collegiate competition.
